Hammer Tapping

Hammer tapping resembles infrared thermography for locating hidden weak-spots or deficiencies of a building shell before or after a renovation. Based on amplitude and frequency of sound wave emitted differently from the normal and weak areas, the test can easily locate potential defects. Although the test is quite accurate in locating defects, it requires access to the test location to be provided  and is rather time-consuming compared with infrared thermography.

General Test Procedures

  1. Define a test area of a building.

  2. Apply uniform force to tap the whole area with plastic hammer.

  3. Record and mark the location of defects on the area.
